Michigan has implemented new laws such as an increase in the minimum wage, automatic voter registration, and an extension of unemployment benefits. However, there are also some lesser-known, wacky laws still on the books in Michigan, such as not being allowed to be drunk on trains, killing a dog using a decompression chamber, and adultery being illegal but only punishable upon a complaint by the affected spouse.
Other strange laws in Michigan include the prohibition of seducing and corrupting an unmarried girl, selling cars on Sundays, a woman needing her husband’s permission to cut her own hair, and a robber being able to file a lawsuit if they get hurt in someone’s house. Additionally, any person over the age of 12 can have a handgun license as long as they have not been convicted of a felony.
While some may question the necessity of these outdated laws, the likelihood of a bipartisan committee in the Michigan legislature getting rid of them is slim. Instead, more laws may continue to be added to the existing pile, further complicating the legal landscape in the state.
