Ice Rescue: South Metro Fire Saves Coyote from Johnson Reservoir

South Metro Fire Rescue conducted an ice rescue at Johnson Reservoir in unincorporated Jefferson County involving a coyote that had wandered onto the ice. Engine 13 responded to a report of an animal lying on the frozen lake approximately 200 yards from shore, prompting the agency to bring in a dive team to assist with the rescue.

After four hours, the SMFR reported that the coyote had been safely transported to shore with no injuries reported. The dive team and other units involved in the rescue operation were able to resume their usual activities following the successful rescue mission.

The incident at Johnson Reservoir highlights the importance of being cautious around frozen bodies of water, as animals and humans alike can become stranded on the ice. South Metro Fire Rescue’s quick response and successful rescue of the coyote demonstrate their commitment to ensuring the safety of all individuals, including wildlife, in their community.
