Bonnie Kennedy, a lifelong horsewoman, was recently honoured by the Horse Council of BC with the 2024 Sherman Olson Lifetime Achievement Award for her commitment and positive impact on the BC horse community. Kennedy, who was born in Calgary, Alberta, began riding as a teen and has since trained and coached over 150 riders while working as a schoolteacher. At 78 years old, she continues to teach riding and is an accredited course designer.
Kennedy’s passion for horses led her to serve on the Prince George Horse Society board, where she played a key role in taking over the lease of the Prince George Agriplex and securing a grant for the construction of four show barns in 2000. She was also involved in equestrian participation in the BC Summer Games in Prince George before horse sports were withdrawn from the games. Kennedy remains dedicated to supporting horse shows put on by the Horse Council of BC.
Receiving the Sherman Olson Lifetime Achievement Award was a “lovely honour” for Kennedy, who has dedicated her life to horses and the equestrian community in BC. Despite her age, she continues to teach riding and contribute to the horse community through her involvement in various projects and events. Kennedy’s impact on the BC horse community is evident through her coaching, training, and support of equestrian activities in the region.
