Honoring Equine Excellence: Longines World Racing Awards 2024

The Longines World Racing Awards took place at the Savoy Hotel in London, where City of Troy and Laurel River tied for the title of Longines World’s Best Racehorse with a rating of 128. City of Troy, a son of Justify, was the top-rated turf horse, while Laurel River was the top-rated dirt horse, with both horses winning prestigious races to earn their ratings.

City of Troy was bred in Kentucky and raced in Europe under Aidan O’Brien, becoming the first Irish-trained horse to win the award since 2009. Laurel River, a Kentucky homebred, was trained by Bhupat Seemar and became the first UAE-trained horse to be rated as the top racehorse in the world. Both horses were honored at the ceremony with their connections present to accept the awards.

The Juddmonte International, won by City of Troy, was named the Longines World’s Best Horse Race with a rating of 124.25. The Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course finished as the runner-up, with other prestigious races like the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes also making the top five. American races like the Breeders’ Cup Turf and the Kentucky Derby also featured in the top 100 races.
