Hong Kong Punters Wager Over HK$1.94 Billion on Lunar New Year Horse Racing Festivities

Punters in Hong Kong bet over HK$1.94 billion on Lunar New Year horse racing at Sha Tin Racecourse, with nearly 86,000 people attending the event. The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s “Chinese New Year Raceday” featured an 11-race programme that started at 12.30pm, with guests like finance chief Paul Chan Mo-po and culture minister Rosanna Law Shuk-pui officiating at the opening ceremony.

Tourists and locals lined up two hours ahead of time to secure prime viewing spots for the races, with entertainment including lion dances, lucky tips from feng shui master Mak Ling Ling, and a musical performance by singer-songwriter Hins Cheung King-hin. Lion dancers were also present to entertain the crowd.

One enthusiastic horse-racing fan, retiree Wong Kwong-king, stated that he was betting about HK$2,000 on the first race. The event was a popular and festive way for people to celebrate the Lunar New Year in Hong Kong, with a significant amount of money being wagered on the races.
