Hill Pony Resources Receives £3000 Grant from Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust to Support Dartmoor Ponies

Hill Pony Resources, a horse rescue organization in Callington, received a £3000 grant from the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust. Since its formation in 2014, the charity has rehomed over 120 ponies and helped reduce the number of Dartmoor ponies going to slaughter. The grant will help cover expenses such as hay, bedding, feed, and field rental, ensuring the ponies receive proper care until they find permanent homes.

The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust supports charities dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, releasing, and rehoming animals in need. They have awarded over £12 million to nearly 1,000 charities worldwide. Hill Pony Resources has noticed an increase in requests for help over the past 18 months, potentially due to the cost of living and inexperienced owners buying ponies at sales without the ability to provide long-term care. The grant will enable the organization to continue supporting these ponies in need.

Currently caring for 11 Dartmoor ponies, Hill Pony Resources has three ponies looking for homes but cannot take in more horses until they find long-term foster homes. The grant from the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust will help the organization continue providing care for the ponies and supporting them until they can be rehomed.
