Highlights from the 2025 US Equestrian Annual Meeting: Rule Changes, Board Elections, and Technology Updates

The USEF Board of Directors met during the 2025 US Equestrian Annual Meeting in Lexington, Ky, where they heard progress reports, presentations on new technologies, and made decisions to further the mission of providing access to equestrian sports. CEO Bill Moroney expressed excitement for the next four years and the opportunities to increase awareness, participation, and benefits for members and horses.

Several extraordinary rule changes were approved by the Board, including restrictions on Shock Wave Therapy, injectable substances, nosebands, and the use of biometric sensors. Additional rule changes related to safety equipment, warnings for minor offenses, and whip use were also approved. Two proposed rule changes were referred for further work at the Mid-Year Board Meeting.

The Board recognized outgoing Directors Ali Brock and Lauren Nicholson, elected Sydney Elliott and Sharon White as Athlete Representatives, and elected the 2025 Executive Committee. Presentations were made on data analytics, a new sports data platform, a prototype entry system, and updates to the US Equestrian mobile app. The Board also approved updates to the Drug & Medications Penalty Guidelines and amendments to the bylaws.
