Great-Gran Elizabeth Breton: Riding for 98 Years and Counting

Elizabeth Breton, a 100-year-old great-grandmother from Cirencester, Gloucestershire, has been riding horses since she was two years old. She took a 30-year break from riding after experiencing tragedies with two of her horses, but returned to the sport in her 70s. Despite her age, she still rides twice a week and feels a strong connection with horses.

Growing up near Lincoln, Elizabeth was competent in riding by the age of six and used to ride daily. She recalls her father, a farmer, emphasizing the importance of riding and hunting for social life in the early 20th century. Elizabeth has competed in horse riding events and even won a cross-country championship class at the age of 78.

Elizabeth plans to continue riding as long as she can, as it feels right in every department and is in her DNA. She believes that riding twice a week keeps her in good shape and enjoys the connection she feels with horses. Despite not riding competitively anymore, she still rides around the village of Stanton and is appreciated by those around her for her presence.
