Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation Funds $2.7 Million for Equine Research in 2025

The Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation has authorized over $2.6 million to fund 16 new projects and 10 continuing projects at 17 universities, bringing their total funding since 1940 to over $44.4 million for more than 450 projects at 48 universities. The projects cover a wide range of topics related to equine health and research, with a focus on improving the well-being of all horses regardless of breed or discipline.

The new projects include studies on topics such as lameness data collection using smartphone-based sensors, development of vaccines against equine rotavirus, and improving treatments for conditions like placentitis and osteoarthritis in horses. The research aims to advance the understanding and treatment of various health issues that affect horses, ultimately improving diagnostics, treatments, and outcomes for equine health.

In addition to funding new projects, the foundation also awarded two career development awards to young researchers pursuing careers in equine research. The recipients, Erica Secor and Shannon Connard, are both working on projects related to regenerative therapies for equine musculoskeletal injuries, with the goal of advancing the field of equine research and improving outcomes for horses.
