Gordon Reistrup Inducted into VHSA Hall of Fame: A Look at His Equestrian Career and Contributions

Gordon Reistrup, head coach of the Washington and Lee University equestrian program, was inducted into the Virginia Horse Shows Association Hall of Fame alongside five others at the association’s annual meeting in December. Reistrup has been involved in competitive equestrian events since 1975, excelling in hunters, equitation, and jumpers. He has also been actively involved in leadership roles within equestrian organizations, serving on the VHSA board and contributing to the SWVHJA for over a decade.

Reistrup’s dedication to the sport has earned him various accolades, including induction into the SWVHJA Hall of Fame, the Guy Burkholder Adult Sportsmanship Award, and the Susan Hagan Award for spirit and sportsmanship. He has been a mentor to riders at all levels and has led the W&L equestrian program to multiple conference titles and runner-up finishes. Reistrup graduated from the University of Virginia in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

The Virginia Horse Shows Association, founded in 1947, aims to honor and preserve tradition in equestrian sport. Reistrup’s induction into the Hall of Fame recognizes his significant contributions to the equestrian community and his success as a coach and competitor.
