Galway Downs Equestrian Center Not Selected as Venue for LA28 Olympic Games

Galway Downs Equestrian Center will not serve as the equestrian venue for the LA28 Olympic Games, despite being previously recommended and approved by the Los Angeles City Council. Galway Downs owner Ken Smith expressed surprise at the sudden change and emphasized the venue’s commitment to hosting elite national and international competitions in the future.

Riverside County Third District Supervisor Chuck Washington highlighted the international recognition brought to Temecula Valley by the equestrian venue selection process for the LA28 Olympics. Temecula Mayor Brenden Kalfus expressed disappointment at the change but remained confident in Galway Downs’ ability to continue as a world-class equestrian presence in the region.

Galway Downs, originally opened in 1968, has a history of hosting premier equestrian competitions across multiple disciplines. Located in Southern California wine country, Temecula Valley offers a scenic destination with award-winning wineries, luxury resorts, and outdoor recreation, attracting over 3 million visitors annually from major metro areas in Southern California.
