From Rags to Riches: McGaw’s Fairytale Victory at TBV VOBIS Platinum Showdown

McGaw, a bargain buy, won the TBV VOBIS Platinum Showdown for trainers David and Emma-Lee Browne and Swettenham Stud. The victory marked a rags-to-riches story for the horse, who has now earned over $600,000 from just two starts. Dream Thoroughbreds’ Befuddle, bred by the same connections, finished second in the race.

McGaw’s dam, Niki Piki Milo, was acquired for a mere $16,000, and the investment has paid off significantly with offers coming in for the talented colt. The Browne’s are eyeing a lucrative spring campaign for McGaw, who has shown promise despite still being raw and unsure of his job. Jockey Damian Lane was thrilled to be part of the fairytale result for the large ownership group.

In other races on Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday at Caulfield, Benagil won the VOBIS Platinum Guineas, providing an emotional victory for trainer Glen Thompson and the owners, including former Blue Gum Farm proprietors Philip and Patti Campbell. Other notable winners included Pride Of Jenni, Winnasedge, and Samangu, showcasing the strength of Victoria’s racing and breeding industry.
