From Food Truck to Racetrack: Grassroots Effort to Aid Los Angeles County Wildfire Victims

A group of individuals in Los Angeles County started a grassroots effort to provide food and supplies to victims of the wildfires. What began with a few people wanting to give out hot dogs quickly grew into a massive operation to collect donations and distribute them to those in need. The effort started at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and has now moved to Santa Anita Park’s parking lot.

Thousands of people have been coming to Santa Anita Park to donate items and pick up supplies for free. The wildfires in Los Angeles County are still ongoing, with one fire closest to Santa Anita, but not posing a threat to the racetrack. The initiative has received support from the community and has been widely shared on social media platforms like TikTok.

The group behind the initiative, including Jerry Martinez, Juan Diaz, and Jimmy Medina, have been overwhelmed by the response and the speed at which the effort has grown. They have been using social media to spread the word and have received support from local television stations. The operation at Santa Anita Park will continue until January 15, with a focus on collecting items like water, blankets, diapers, and pet food for those affected by the wildfires.
