Frankie Dettori, Legendary Jockey, to File for Bankruptcy Amid Tax Dispute

Frankie Dettori, a successful jockey in horse racing history, has announced he will file for bankruptcy due to a dispute with British tax authorities. The 54-year-old Italian, now based in the United States, has been in a legal battle with HM Revenue and Customs over denied tax deductions.

Dettori stated that his advisers have been working with HMRC for the past six months to resolve his financial situation, but he will still be filing for bankruptcy. He expressed sadness and embarrassment over the outcome and advised others to take control of their financial matters. Dettori has won over 3,350 races in his career, including famously going through the card with seven winners in seven races at Ascot in 1996.

Despite announcing his retirement in December 2022, Dettori reversed his decision and moved to compete in the United States. Last April, he won six straight races at Santa Anita and did his signature flying dismount after each victory. Dettori acknowledged that filing for bankruptcy is a significant decision with long-lasting consequences.
