Former Nurse Fined for Attempting to Poison Dressage Mare

Former nurse Christine Campey, 68, was caught on camera attempting to feed rat poison to a dressage mare named Elle at a livery yard in Cheshire. The poison was found in Elle’s food, but she suffered no ill effects. Campey admitted to the crime but claimed she was on strong pain medication at the time and could not remember the incident.

Campey was seen on CCTV footage opening a bucket of poison and spilling it on the floor before adding it to Elle’s food. She then fed the poisoned food to Elle, who was later turned out into the field. Campey was fined and ordered to pay court costs and compensation for moving Elle to a safer location.

Elle’s owner, Gill Poole, expressed gratitude that the incident was caught on camera and that Elle survived the poisoning attempt. Poole hopes that the outcome will prevent Campey from harming any animals in the future.
