Firefighters in Rio de Janeiro rescued workers trapped on a window ledge of a clothing factory that caught fire. The factory was producing costumes for Brazil’s upcoming carnival celebrations. At least 20 people were injured in the blaze, with some in critical condition in the hospital.
The head of the local fire department, Col Luciano Pacheco Sarmento, stated that the workers were operating in a “precarious manner” without proper safety conditions. The rescue operation was successful in saving those trapped on the window ledge. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The incident highlights the dangerous working conditions faced by many in the garment industry, especially in developing countries. The injured workers are receiving medical treatment, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the fire to prevent similar incidents in the future.
