The federal government is offering up to $1,000 for the adoption of wild horses or burros that once roamed public lands out West. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will feature 120 animals for adoption at an upcoming event in Seguin, Texas. The incentive is being offered in an effort to find every horse and burro a good home.
Those interested in adopting must be at least 18 years old, have no history of animal abuse, and have a minimum of 400 square feet of corral space per animal on their property. Corrals must have access to food, water, and shelter, and must meet specific height requirements for fencing. Animals must be hauled off in covered stock trailers.
Adoptions will take place on February 21 and 22 at the Seguin Events Complex. Applications will be approved on-site, and more information can be found on the BLM website or by calling 866-468-7826.
