Exploring Horseback Riding on Myrtle Beach in the Winter

During the winter months in the Myrtle Beach area, horseback riding is allowed on certain beaches across the Grand Strand, attracting tourists and locals alike. Horses are permitted on the southern end of the Myrtle Beach area, specifically at the Myrtle Beach State Park and in Georgetown County. Horse owners must obtain a permit for each horse at the state park and must collect any waste the animal creates in Georgetown.

Horses are allowed on the beach in Georgetown County and at the Myrtle Beach State Park from November 1 to the last day of February. However, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Horry County, and Surfside Beach all prohibit horses on the beach year-round according to local ordinances. Fortunately, for those who do not own horses, there are beach tours available across the Grand Strand.

Horseback Riding of Myrtle Beach offers tours at the Myrtle Beach State Park three times a day Monday through Saturday during the off-season, costing $95 for a 90-minute ride. Inlet Point Plantation offers ocean-front rides on Waties Island year-round, with hour-long rides ranging in price from $150 to $250 depending on the time of day and year.
