The National Equestrian Championship (Tent Pegging) at the Punjab Armed Police ground featured an exciting individual lance event where experienced riders from across the country showcased their talent. The coordination between the riders and their horses was impressive, with one rider falling off his horse ‘Ronaldo’ after successfully grabbing the rings and peg, causing a moment of suspense. Ronaldo, recently purchased by the PAP, initially showed resistance but eventually participated in the event.
The event featured horses with interesting names like Lucky Boy, Candy, Baby, Billoo, Nice Girl, Monika, and Prem. Rider Aakash, riding ‘Prem’, scored a perfect 6-6-6 by grabbing both rings and peg in less than 6 seconds. The game of tent pegging originated from Army personnel taking away pegs with swords while riding horses, leading to the destruction of enemy tents.
Fourteen teams are participating in the event, including the 61st Cavalry, AMU Riding Club, ASC Equestrian team, Assam Rifles, BSF Equestrian team, and more. The competition showcases the skill and coordination between riders and their horses, with impressive performances and moments of suspense throughout the event.
