The Colorado Department of Agriculture’s Division of Animal Welfare is offering Equine Welfare Assistance Grants to organizations aiming to improve the well-being of equines and their caretakers in Colorado. Eligible applicants include 501(c)3s, for-profit entities, Tribal or local governments, law enforcement agencies, and colleges or universities. The grants will fund projects such as safety net programs, adoption programs, and education and awareness initiatives related to equine welfare.
The Division of Animal Welfare will focus on supporting programs that aim to keep equines in their homes, promote adoptions of equines in rescues, and educate the public about equine welfare issues. Eligible programs include education, outreach, safety net programs, equine community support, and adoption programs. The minimum budget request per application is $10,000, with a maximum of $50,000 per entity, and all funding must be expended by June 30, 2026.
Research projects and individual owners or companies seeking funding for privately owned equines are not eligible for the Equine Welfare Assistance Grants. Full eligibility and application requirements can be found on the CDA website, and an informational webinar will be held on April 18, 2025, to provide more information about the grant and the objectives of the Division of Animal Welfare.
