In the middle of the Ocala winter equestrian schedule in Florida, there is a 10-day period in March where horse sports enthusiasts can enjoy top international jumper and combined driving competitions, national hunter classes, a mixed-breed show, Pony Club Rally, and polo matches. The Live Oak International Combined Driving and Show Jumping Tournament kicks off the festivities, followed by the FEI Longines League of Nations week of 5* international show jumping at the World Equestrian Center. Ocala, known as the Horse Capital of the World, boasts over 15,000 Thoroughbreds and 600 Thoroughbred breeding farms, making it a hub for various equine breeds.
The Live Oak International Tournament features international-level combined driving and show jumping competitions, as well as family-friendly activities like dock-diving dogs, shopping tents, and a beer garden. The event draws participants from multiple countries and states, offering a world-class venue similar to those in Europe. The FEI Longines League of Nations competition at the World Equestrian Center features teams from 10 nations competing in two rounds of show jumping, with the USA ultimately winning the Ocala leg of the series.
Beyond equestrian events, Ocala offers additional venues like the Florida Horse Park and the HITS circuit for various equestrian competitions. Visitors can also enjoy trail rides, farm tours, and dining at horse-themed restaurants in the area. For wildlife enthusiasts, the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge and state parks like Rainbow Springs and Silver Springs offer opportunities for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing near Ocala.
