Located in Rainhill, the East Liverpool Riding for the Disabled offers horse riding programs for children with disabilities and social meet-ups for vulnerable adults. The charity, founded by Natalie Burns just before the pandemic, now attracts around 100 people weekly to its stables, with many more on the waiting list.
Natalie and her team of volunteers provide horse riding sessions for people of all ages, as well as horse therapy sessions for those with mental and physical disabilities. In addition to riding programs, the stables offer community events like ‘Tea and Talk’ and ‘Tea with a Pony’ for vulnerable or isolated individuals.
Despite facing running costs of around £100,000 per year, the East Liverpool RDA has been shortlisted for the Pride of Britain Fund, which provides grants of £500, £1,000, and £2,500 to worthy individuals, charities, or organizations. The charity’s inclusion in the fund may provide some much-needed financial support to continue their valuable work.
