Dove Creek Equine Rescue (DCER) recently broke ground on a new 3,500-square-foot expansion near Canyon, funded by a successful $346,000 capital campaign. The organization, founded in 2012, focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming unwanted horses while also offering equine-assisted programs for the community.
The new facility will include a classroom, offices, bathrooms, kitchen, and storage space, allowing DCER to provide programs year-round. The expansion was made possible by a challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation and the support of longtime donors and new contributors. The organization’s mission is to give horses a second chance and provide a safe space for healing for both horses and humans.
DCER has taken in around 250 equines since its founding, with 85% finding new homes. The organization is accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and is a member of the ASPCA’s Right Horse Initiative. To sustain its mission, DCER hosts events like the “Unbridled Art Auction” and “Meet a Horse Day.” The new facility is expected to be completed later this year, with plans for expanded activities and community engagement.
