Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle Praises Minister Ramson Jr. for Landmark Horse Racing Authority Bill

Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle commended Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports Charles Ramson Jr. for introducing the Horse Racing Authority Bill in Parliament, which aims to establish a regulatory framework for the sector. The bill proposes the establishment of a governing board with five to seven members chosen from various backgrounds, including business, law, and horse racing. Provisions in the bill address infractions, increase the number of Authority members, impose term limits, and establish licensing for owners, jockeys, and trainers.

Ninvalle believes that the tabling of the Horse Racing Authority Bill is a historic moment for the industry in Guyana, providing clarity, structure, and oversight that will advance the formal recognition and regulation of horse racing. He sees the potential for the industry to become a significant spectator sport and contributor to sports tourism, similar to cricket, football, and motor racing. The legislation is expected to propel the growth of horse racing in Guyana and ensure its sustainability for the future.

Horse racing has a long history as a popular sport and entertainment industry worldwide, including in Guyana. The lack of legislation has hindered the growth of the sport, but with the introduction of the bill, necessary reforms and infrastructure are set to be implemented to accelerate its advancement. Minister Ramson’s leadership in spearheading this process is seen as a legacy-defining moment that will have historic implications for the industry’s development in economic, cultural, and social dimensions.
