Danish Minister of Food Signs Agreements with China to Boost Fish Exports

Danish Minister of Food Jacob Jensen and Chinese Minister of Customs Sun Meijun signed three agreements in Beijing to facilitate the export of horse feed, malting barley, and wild-caught fish from Denmark and Greenland to China. While China was previously a major market for Danish pork exports, recent figures show a shift towards other products such as fish and shellfish, with China now ranking as the seventh largest export market for Danish food.

The agreements are expected to boost Danish and Greenlandic fish exports to China, with the horse feed agreement opening up access to China’s growing horse breeding industry and the malting barley agreement supporting beer production. The agreement on wild-caught fish simplifies the export process by allowing simultaneous access for all types of wild-caught fish from Denmark and Greenland, eliminating the need for separate applications for each species.

China is now Denmark’s second-largest export market for fish and seafood, third largest for pork, and fifth for dairy products. The agreements signed between the Danish and Chinese ministers are seen as crucial for both economies and are expected to further strengthen trade relations between the two countries.
