The Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society is facing concerns from breeders that a new appraisal system could result in the Society losing control over managing matters related to the breed. Some breeders have called for an Emergency General Meeting to address these concerns and potentially remove senior officers from their positions. The Society has strongly rejected claims of misinformation and emphasized its commitment to the Pony Show and maintaining control over the stud book.
The CPBS has reassured members that it is not selling its headquarters in Clifden and remains dedicated to the premises. Pony inspections are still being conducted by the Society, with the first round taking place in Ballinasloe. The Society’s President, Daragh Ó Tuarisg, emphasized that HSI is not taking over inspections or the CPBS, and an independent survey is being conducted on all studbook inspections.
The Council of the CPBS is focused on good governance and is establishing an Audit, Risk, and Finance committee to review the Society’s finances and ensure best practices moving forward. The Society is seeking qualified volunteers to join the committee and is committed to addressing concerns raised by breeders while maintaining control over the breed and the Pony Show.
