Community Rallies to Help Humane Society in Record-Breaking Capacity Crisis

The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County faced a record-breaking capacity crisis with 264 dogs in need of homes, prompting an adoption event with waived fees for dogs one year and older. The event was successful, with nearly 60 dogs finding loving homes, but the shelter still has 93 dogs on-site and 120 in foster care. The shelter relies on community support to continue caring for animals in need, regardless of age, breed, or medical condition.

The capacity crisis was exacerbated by the seizure of over 60 dogs and cats during a Pierce County animal cruelty investigation in December. While the shelter has repurposed spaces to accommodate the influx of animals, they still need ongoing support from the community. The shelter provides resources and guidance to help families transition with their new pets, aiming to keep pets with the people who love them most.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Humane Society plans to host more adoption events to find permanent homes for animals in need. They encourage those interested in adopting, donating, or volunteering to visit their website for more information. The shelter emphasizes the importance of community support in caring for animals and helping them find loving homes.
