Citizen Bull and White Abarrio Top First NTRA Poll of 2025

Citizen Bull and White Abarrio were voted the top 3-year-old and top Thoroughbred, respectively, in the first National Thoroughbred Racing Association poll of 2025. Citizen Bull, trained by Bob Baffert, is set to make his first start of the year in the Robert B. Lewis at Santa Anita. White Abarrio, trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., won the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) and leads the top Thoroughbred poll.

Saffie Joseph Jr. trains three of the top 10 horses in the top Thoroughbred poll, with White Abarrio, Skippylongstocking, and Be Your Best all making the list. Thorpedo Anna, the 2024 horse of the year, is expected to make her 2025 debut in the Azeri (G2) at Oaklawn on March 8. The NTRA polls are voted on by national media and represent horses competing for horse of the year and up through the Triple Crown.

The NTRA top 3-year-old poll includes horses competing in the Triple Crown, with Citizen Bull and Barnes, both Into Mischief colts trained by Baffert, leading the rankings. The top Thoroughbred poll will conclude after the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Tuesday, Nov. 4, with horses like White Abarrio and Thorpedo Anna in contention for the top spot.
