Choosing a Mascot for Tim Price’s Talented Horse, Jarillo: A Unicorn Drama Llama

Tim Price and Jonelle Price’s horses at top level each get a mascot chosen by their grooms. Jarillo, the pathfinder at the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event, has a mascot of a “unicorn drama llama” to suit his sensitive personality. Tim first saw Jarillo at novice level with Swedish rider Ludwig Svennerstal and was impressed by his quality, leading him to purchase the horse.

Jarillo has had successes at various events, including a third-place finish at Blenheim Horse Trials and a win at Thoresby last year. Despite his sharpness and sensitivity, Tim believes Jarillo’s qualities make him one of the nicest young five-star horses around. Going first in competitions helps give Jarillo more space in the warm-up rings due to his horse shyness.

Tim describes Jarillo as a light type but a good eater, comparing him to a lanky teenage boy. The pair made a strong start in the dressage at the Kentucky Three-Day Event, scoring 28.4 for equal second overnight. The Prices’ other five-star horses at the event have mascots of a troll, Batman, and Tigger.
