Chittenden County 4-H Hosts Annual Hippology Contest at UVM Campus

The Chittenden County 4-H hosted its annual hippology contest at the University of Vermont, where 18 4-H’ers from northern Vermont competed in various phases to test their equine knowledge. Individual placements were determined based on scores from all phases of the competition, with winners in different age groups ranging from 8 to 18 years old.

The competition included participants in different age groups, with Fiona Adams and Julie Merlo taking first and second place in the 8- and 9-year-old category, Saige Prisco winning first place in the 10- and 11-year-old category, and Jane Curry coming in first in the 12- and 13-year-old category. Seniors aged 14 to 18 also competed, with Mikayla Tobey taking first place.

The contest, organized by UVM Extension 4-H Educator Martha Manning, served as practice for participants planning to take part in the 2025 State 4-H Hippology Contest in Rutland. For more information about the Chittenden County 4-H horse program, individuals can contact Manning directly.
