Chilean Grand Prix rider Virginia Yarur Ready has retired her Olympic ride Ronaldo from competition sport. Ronaldo, a 19-year-old Danish warmblood gelding, was originally named Trøstruplund’s Ronaldo and sold to American Cecilia Stewart before being purchased by Yarur in 2018.
Yarur and Ronaldo made their debut at the 2019 Global dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida, and went on to compete in Canada, Europe, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where they scored 66.227% in the Grand Prix. They continued to compete in Wellington and Spain before being selected for the Chilean home team at the 2023 Pan American Games, where they finished fourth.
After their final Grand Prix test in Wellington in April 2024, Yarur announced Ronaldo’s retirement from competition sport. Ronaldo will be moving back to Chile for a quieter life, where Yarur plans to continue riding him for fun and maintaining his good shape. Yarur expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete with such an amazing horse and looks forward to the future with new horses.
