Captain Ahab’s Progeny Shine in WestSired Finals at Bunbury

WA sire Captain Ahab’s progeny are starting to shine on the track, with both the fillies and Colts and Geldings WestSired Finals at Bunbury won by Captain Ahab USA foals. The first to win was Aussie Captain, bred by Gibellini, who overcame colic as a yearling to win the $30,000 final. El Raes Girl, bred by David Simmonds (Jnr) and owned by David Simmonds (Snr), also won the Fillies final under the training and driving of Aiden De Campo.

Aussie Captain, trained and driven by Donald Harper, won his first race and collected over $17,000 in stakes, along with impressive bonuses. El Raes Girl, who was initially unsold at sales, claimed her second win in a row under De Campo’s guidance. Captain Ahab was imported to Australia in 2021 and stands at stud for $3000, with the Simmonds family excited to see more of his progeny on the track in 2025.

The decision to import Captain Ahab was driven by the double westbred scheme, which has proven to be successful for the Simmonds family. The young stallion has had a strong start to his WA career, and his offspring are expected to make an impact throughout the year.
