Caitlin Lyons: From Equestrian Athlete to Wildlife Conservationist

Caitlin Lyons’ lifelong passion for horseback riding has shaped her as an athlete, an academic, and a wildlife conservationist. She discovered her love for riding at a young age and quickly became dedicated to the sport, leading her to become an award-winning equestrian. Lyons found her calling at the University of Georgia, where she excelled as an athlete and was named a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Lyons has a special connection with her personal horse, Ava Grace, and describes horseback riding as a way to connect with the animal rather than just giving commands. She has a deep love for horses and enjoys caring for them, even sneaking cookies to some of the horses at UGA’s stables. Lyons’ passion for animals extends beyond riding, as she is pursuing a Master of Natural Resources degree to work in wildlife conservation and help protect endangered species.

The experience of caring for horses has influenced Lyons’ character and dedication to wildlife conservation. She believes in the importance of engaging stakeholders in conservation efforts and is committed to making a difference on a national level. Just as she has built trust with horses, Lyons will use that dedication to protect endangered species and their natural environments.
