The Bureau of Land Management is starting the 2025 adoption season with two wild horse and burro adoption events in April. The animals will be available to qualified adopters for in-person adoptions at the Rock Springs Wild Horses Holding Facility and the Wheatland Off Range Corral. Approximately 40 wild horses will be available in Rock Springs, while up to 30 will be available in Wheatland.
The wild horses available for adoption have been removed from overpopulated herds roaming Western public rangelands. There is a minimum fee of $125 for each animal. The adoption event in Rock Springs will take place on April 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the event in Wheatland will have gates open at 8 a.m. with a live competitive auction beginning at 9 a.m. Any horses not sold will be available on a first come first serve basis until 12 p.m.
For more information on the adoption events and locations, individuals can visit Wild Horse & Burro Events, BLM events, or contact the national information center by phone or email. These events provide an opportunity for qualified adopters to give a home to wild horses and burros that have been removed from overpopulated herds.
