The Bridgewater State University equestrian team will be represented at the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Zone 1, Region 4 Championships by junior captain Emily Desmond and sophomore captain Abigail Abbott. Desmond, a repeat performer, will compete in the intermediate flat division, while Abbott will make her IHSA regional debut in the intermediate fences and intermediate flat divisions. The regional show will take place on Saturday at the Horsebarn Hill in Storrs, Conn., with the top two finishers in each event moving on to the zone competition back in Connecticut on April 6.
Desmond, who finished first in the regional last season, is excited to return and hopes for another strong showing. Abbott, after attending the regional show last season to support her teammates, is now one of the top riders in the region and is looking forward to the experience. Both riders have had consistent performances during BSU’s shows this spring, with Abbott noting improvements in her confidence and presence in the show ring.
Desmond and Abbott are motivated to advance to the next level and potentially make it to the national championship show in Mill Spring, N.C. Both riders are focused on practicing and improving their skills in preparation for the upcoming competitions. They are looking forward to the competitive atmosphere of the regionals and are excited to represent their team and compete against other top riders.
