Bob Baffert is gearing up for the Kentucky Derby with seven contenders in his lineup, including Citizen Bull, Getaway Car, Madaket Road, Rodriguez, Barnes, Gaming, and Mellencamp. Recently, Baffert made a noteworthy purchase of a Tiz the Law filly for $550,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co., showcasing his seriousness in the sport and eye for promising talent.
Tiz the Law, a familiar name in horse racing, faced off against a horse trained by Baffert in the 2020 Kentucky Derby after an undefeated career leading up to the race. Despite a strong performance, Tiz the Law was defeated by Baffert’s horse, Authentic, marking Baffert’s sixth victory in the prestigious race.
The 2020 Kentucky Derby was held in September due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to adjustments in the racing schedule. Tiz the Law’s owner, Jack Knowlton, expressed reluctance to face Baffert until necessary, but ultimately, Tiz the Law faced off against Uncle Chuck, trained by Baffert, in the Travers Stakes, with Tiz the Law emerging victorious in a thrilling finish.
