Big South Fork National Park River and Recreation Area Upgrades Horseback Riding Trails

Over 16 miles of trails in the Big South Fork National Park River and Recreation area, including the Cumberland Valley Loop Horseback Riding Trail, have been repaired. The project involved fixing the trail head, spreading aggregate, repairing water control devices, and removing fallen trees. The trails are most accessible in the Spring, offering a variety of skill levels and terrain for riders to enjoy, including sandstone bluffs, waterfalls, and dense forests.

The Cumberland Valley Loop Trail serves as an important connector for horseback riders and hikers to the hundreds of miles of trail network in the recreation area. Visitors planning to bring horses to the park must have proof of a negative Coggins Test. There are multiple campgrounds available for horse enthusiasts, such as Bandy Creek Camp Store and stable, Bandy Creek Campground, Station Camp Campground, Bear Creek Horse Camp, and Charit Creek Lodge, which is only accessible by foot, bike, or horse.

The park offers a variety of popular trails for horseback riding, including the John Muir Trail, O&W Trail, and Yahoo Falls Loop. Riders can experience scenic views, historic railroad beds, and access to waterfalls. The newly repaired Cumberland Valley Loop Trail provides access to campgrounds, picnic areas, recreational areas, scenic overlooks, and river access within the park.
