The Belgian equestrian federation (KBRSF) has announced a bid to host the 2027 European Championships at equestrian center “De Gaverbeek” in Waregem, with ambitions for a multi-discipline event including dressage, show jumping, para dressage, and eventing. The project is supported by the Flemish government, sports consultancy company Golazo, Horse Sport Flanders, and the KBRSF, aiming to put the sport and industry on the map worldwide.
The 2027 European Championships are crucial as they will serve as a team qualifier for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, adding to the significance of the event. KBRSF chair Stephan Detry believes that hosting the Championships will create leverage and elevate the sport’s profile globally. The federation’s new vice-chair, Bart Stokmans, who has connections to FEI president Ingmar de Vos, is also involved in the bid and has experience in organizing equestrian events.
The intended venue for the Championships, “De Gaverbeek” in Waregem, has previously hosted CDI’s and is set to be the location for this prestigious event. With the support of various organizations and government bodies, the bid for the 2027 European Championships represents a significant opportunity for the Belgian equestrian community to showcase their talents and attract international attention.
