Animal Charities Secure Injunction to Prevent XL Bullies from Being Put Down Under New Laws

Animal charities have been granted a temporary injunction preventing XL Bullies in their care from being euthanized under new laws. However, they have not been successful in preventing a ban on rehoming XL Bullies, which the judge believes would undermine the new regulations due to past injuries caused by the breed.

The judge highlighted several instances of severe injuries and even a death caused by XL Bullies in recent years, leading to increased regulation of the breed. He acknowledged the care provided by animal charities to these dogs but also emphasized the potential danger they pose due to their unpredictability and violent nature.

The ban on importing, breeding, selling, and owning XL Bullies without a Certificate of Exemption has led to the dilemma of euthanizing these dogs in shelters or care facilities. Animal charities are challenging the regulations in court, with a full hearing scheduled for February 27, while the temporary injunction will remain in place until the legal proceedings are concluded.
