Ally Dunlop Mourns Loss of Top Horse Givarro: A Tribute to a Dressage Star

Canadian dressage rider Ally Dunlop has lost her top horse Givarro, a 13-year-old KWPN gelding who passed away in 2024. Givarro, bred by J. Lenaerts, was by De Niro out of Navarra.

Dunlop, who started her international career on pony Oke Doke in 2010, acquired Givarro in 2018 and made their national show debut in Canada in 2018. They competed in Wellington, Florida, on the national circuit between 2019 and 2023 before making their CDI debut in 2023.

In 2024, Dunlop announced the sad passing of Givarro, but did not disclose the cause of death. She expressed her deep sorrow on Instagram, stating that losing Givarro has been one of the most difficult experiences of her life and that she is not yet ready to talk about it in detail.
