The Bureau of Land Management is hosting events on Fridays in April and May at the Florence Wild Horse and Burro Training and Off-Range Corral where untrained wild horses and burros are available for adoption for $125 on a first come, first served basis. These animals have been examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, de-wormed, and have a current negative Coggins test.
Wild horses and burros are known for their sure-footedness, strength, intelligence, and endurance, and with kindness and patience, they can be trained for various uses. Interested adopters must be 18 years of age, have approved facilities to keep the animals, and proper transportation home from the event site. BLM staff will load each animal into a BLM-approved trailer provided by the adopter.
Adopters can apply online prior to the event through the BLM’s Online Corral and must meet adoption/purchase qualifications. The events take place at 17989 E. Butte Avenue in Florence, Arizona, and all visitors must follow Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry rules while at the facility. The BLM, in cooperation with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Re-entry, offers wild horse and burro adoptions and sales at this location.
