4-H Day at the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame: A Showcase of Youth Engagement in the Equine Industry

More than 160 attendees gathered for a 4-H Day at the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame, celebrating the Standardbred industry and equine education. The event featured interactive exhibits, presentations, and hands-on activities to introduce youth to harness racing and equine care. The event showcased the strong partnership between the Museum and the NYS 4-H Horse Program, with support from the Agricultural and Standardbred Breeding and Development Fund.

Teen leaders from 4-H clubs delivered presentations on equine careers, horsemanship, and agriculture, while families participated in horse-themed crafts and explored the museum’s exhibits. The event also included a tack swap hosted by Orange County 4-H and special demonstrations by a Standardbred trainer and drawing lessons. The presence of Ralph Scunziano, Executive Director of the Agricultural and Standardbred Breeding and Development Fund, highlighted the commitment to youth equine education and the future of harness racing in New York.

The event was a success in providing real-world experiences in the horse industry for youth, with a focus on hands-on learning, leadership opportunities, and community engagement. The collaboration between the Museum and the NYS 4-H Horse Program, supported by the Agricultural and Standardbred Breeding and Development Fund, continues to expand opportunities for young people to learn about Standardbred horses and the equine industry.
