The East Bay Regional Park District has launched its 2025 Trails Challenge, inviting the public to explore handpicked trails showcasing the region’s natural beauty. Participants can choose from trails close to home in Castro Valley or venture further into the East Bay for a full day of exploration. Finishers will receive a 2025 Trails Challenge shirt, with additional awards, prizes, and giveaways available.
The challenge, which began in 1993, includes 20 trails of varying difficulty levels throughout the East Bay. Some trails are fully accessible for those with mobility limitations. Participants must complete five trails or 26.2 total miles by Dec. 31, 2025, through walking, biking, or horseback riding. Rewards for finishers include monthly drawings, special categories based on age, a trailmaster patch for completing all 20 trails, and a 2025 challenge champion award.
To participate in the 2025 Trails Challenge, individuals can pick up a free guidebook and T-shirt at any East Bay Regional Park visitor center or download the guidebook online. Selfies taken on the trails and tagged with #TrailsChallengeEBRPD on social media can also enter participants into drawings. The challenge aims to encourage people to connect with nature, explore new parks, and enjoy time outdoors.
