Twelve horses were rescued by the Pennsylvania SPCA after a stable fire in Southwest Philadelphia killed two horses and injured another. The fire was put under control by the Philadelphia Fire Department around 8 a.m., but it is unclear how it started. The PSPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement team rescued the horses and is providing urgent medical care, shelter, and support for their recovery.
Three of the rescued horses were taken to the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center for critical treatment, while three others were transported to the PSPCA’s Philadelphia headquarters. The remaining six horses are being housed temporarily by other animal rescue organizations before eventually making their way to the PSPCA’s Danville Center. The PSPCA is working with investigators to determine any potential cruelty or neglect charges related to the fire.
The PSPCA is seeking information on the ownership of the horses involved in the fire and is accepting donations to support the rescue and care of the animals. Donations can be made on their website, and anyone with information on the horses is urged to contact the PSPCA’s Animal Cruelty hotline.
